EMDR

EMDR is a Dept of Health (NICE) approved treatment for trauma and PTSD that is also proving popular with other difficulties such as:
  • anxiety and panic
  • performance anxiety
  • stress reduction
  • pain disorders
  • addictions
  • complicateed grief reactions
  • phobias
It has been extensively researched and proven to have an impact when working with traumatic or frightening memories. These memories are stored differently in the brain and can cause anxiety and other emotional difficulties long after any event has passed. EMDR seems to have a direct effect on the way that the brain processes information, possibly mimicing the natural healing that takes place during REM sleep. Its a body based therapy that uses bilateral stimulation such as the tapping of hands or side to side eye movements to help us process old experiences and see disturbing material in a new and less distressing way.

It hs been used extensively with both the impact of one off traumas such as road traffic accidents or prsonal injuries and with trauma that occurred during childhood as a result of abuse, neglect or abandonment.

EMDR can be more rapid than talking therapy as it works directly with the limbic system of the old brain where unprocessed trauma memories are stored.

I charge a different fee structure for EMDR, with an hours session costing £55 per hour.
